Fort Myers Fishing Report – July 2nd 2020

We started our charter  just after first light and we headed to the beaches to go Snook fishing The clients caught several Snook before the sun came up and also hooked on a 10 pound jack that fought for about 15 minutes on a fly rod.

After about an hour and a half of Snook fishing we transitioned to fish for speckled sea trout up on the flats. We started out using twitch baits and swim baits to catch the  trout and one of our clients was fly fishing.

Between 9 and 10am the water temps were heating up quickly and we caught about a dozen speckled sea trout and ladyfish. We decided to go trolling in the gulf for gag grouper and whatever else would bite. We caught a nice gag grouper right away and caught several very large ladyfish. By 1030am we decided to call it a day and head back to the boat ramp, the air temperature was already in the 90’s which made the boat ride back a very uncomfortable experience.

We started out by getting on the water just after first light and we were planning on going out to the beaches and targeting Snook around the passes. We caught several Snook before the sun came up and also hooked on to a 10 pound jack that we fought for about 15 minutes on a fly rod. After about an hour and a half of Snook fishing we transitioned to fish for speckled sea trout up on the flats. We started out by using twitch baits and some baits to cut these trout on the flat as well as one person was fishing a fly rod. Most of the fish were caught on the twitch bait and the swim bait. By this time the water was already starting to get very hot into the lower 90s and we only caught about a dozen speckled sea trout and a dozen ladyfish. We decided to go trolling in the gulf for gag grouper and whatever else would bite. We caught a nice gag grouper right away and caught several big ladyfish as well. By 1030 we decided to call it a day and head back to the boat ramp, the air temperature was already about 94° and we felt like we were getting cooked.
