If you been around fishing for any length of time you’ll recognize the name Frog Hair associated with light fluorocarbon line for fly fishing tippets ( at least I did). I never thought that Frog Hair made fluorocarbon in the heavier pound test we use for saltwater fishing. At the ICAST trade show two years ago in Orlando we stopped at the Frog Hair booth to check on the availability of leader material in the heavier pound tests we needed. Shortly after we got a bulk spool of 40 pound and 60 pound test Frog Hair. As you know from any of our reviews we let the product prove itself over a period of time, and we can confidently say two years later that no other leader material we’ve ever used has been as transparent and incredibly tough as the line from Frog Hair.
Before we started using Frog Hair, I honestly thought that most fluorocarbon was about the same in 40lb to 60lb pound test range. Yet even in heavier pound tests Frog Hair is smaller in diameter than other competing line. That alone would be impressive, but the fact that it retained its legendary invisibility was proof that even in heavy pound test you don’t have to sacrifice incredible abrasion resistance. Speaking of abrasion resistance, we have had some incredible experiences with Frog Hair being pulled through mangrove roots and dock pilings covered in barnacles and it came away with hardly a scratch or a nick. Time after time the line has proven its incredible ability to resist abrasion.
